"Growth Through Adversity: Uprooting Oppressive Social Work Practices"

NASW/TX Virtual Social Work Advocacy Day (SWAD) 2022 is all about empowering social work students and professionals to grow together! Social work advocacy looks different across the three levels of practice, and yet each is faced with the challenge of uprooting the oppressive systems and historical practices that pervade our society and profession.

We will use our day together to move through the three levels; opening the day with a keynote address on social work advocacy as it applies to undoing structural racism on a macro level, then participate in a panel presentation and townhall-style discussion on policy advocacy for mezzo level changes. We will close the day with taking your advocacy to action at the micro level - by meeting with legislative staff and advocates. (Be sure to read our How To Guide before your legislative visits!)

We will be offering an NASW-TX Advocacy Certificate! If a SWAD attendee attends 3 or more of the day’s events, they will receive the Advocacy Certificate. We strongly encourage that schools offer this as part of school credit or bonus in classes.

We hope you will join us on Zoom (in your SWAD t-shirt) for a day of skill cultivation and community building- come grow with us!
